Today is World Backup Day

– perhaps more necessary than before?

Last year, we thought ransomware attacks had peaked. But in hindsight, 2018 has started just as badly. Last week, the US city of Atlanta was attacked by ransomware and was required to pay a ransom of the equivalent of 56,000 SEK to unlock one computer and 420,000 SEK to unlock them all. But backups don’t just protect against ransomware, they also protect against theft, data crashes or just plain user error.

Given that data loss was estimated a couple of years ago to cost 1.7 trillion annually and that many companies do not recover from a big blow but actually go under, backup is very important and probably deserves its own day. This year, World Backup Day falls on Easter Eve and many people probably have other things on their minds than the well-being of their computer. But give backup a thought today anyway. At least your own, and make sure it works. Because you have a backup, right? If not, go to www.storegate.se and get a safe backup in a Swedish cloud. If you can’t make it today, you are welcome to visit us every day, for us every day is World Backup Day.

Happy Easter!
