Think about security when working remotely

With more and more employees being forced to work from home due to Covid 19, it is now particularly important to think about how you as a company handle your information.

Today, there are great cloud services that make it easy to conduct internal and external meetings remotely. But what services do you use as a company to store and share information? When you store and share your company’s files with Storegate’s cloud services, all information is stored in Sweden, under Swedish law. This means that the company’s files get 100% protection against the US law CLOUD Act and that you as a company will find it much easier to comply with GDPR (personal data, business-critical information and more). It’s not just important for you. The way you handle your information is also important for your customers and partners.

Below are some tips on what your company should consider when staff work from home:

  • If possible, use the computer assigned to you by your employer.
  • Make sure to keep your computer and programs up to date. Do not forget to restart after installation.
  • Have strong passwords, and not the same for multiple logins. Feel free to use password managers such as Lastpass or those available for the browser. Also remember to change your router password, preferably if you have never changed from the preset password.
  • Have a secure login such as multi-factor identification on the job network. That is, something more than username and password to enter. Storegate offers both 2 step verification and BankID.
  • Do not use foreign cloud services to share sensitive files. For example, even files with personal data may not be stored in US cloud services due to GDPR. To simplify management, share all files with Storegate, then all data is stored in Sweden under Swedish legislation.
  • Lock up or hide your computer if you are not at home.
  • Avoid using public Wi-Fi networks.
  • Check the sender and content extra carefully before clicking on emails and social media, or opening pages about the coronavirus. Scammers are taking advantage of the crisis.
