What is the difference between Storegate Sync and Storegate Online Backup? There are some similarities, but the programs have two different uses. How does Storegate Online Backup work?
Online Backup makes it possible to back up documents, images, files, folders and more. Storegate Online Backup creates a copy of all the information on your computer included in the backup routine. You choose how and when you want to take your backup and the program works in the background to ensure that new and changed files are updated in the backup. If something happens to your computer, you can easily restore the files from your backup and quickly get back to work. With Storegate Online Backup you also get regular reports for your backup so you can easily see how much has been stored and when the last backup was run. Online Backup is therefore perfect for anyone who wants an easy way to keep photos and other important files safe.
How does Storegate Sync work?
Synchronizing files is a convenient way to automatically have the same file, image or folder available on multiple computers. With Storegate Sync, you can work on a file on your home computer and when you come to work, you have the same version of the file on your work computer. If you delete the file at work, it also disappears from your home computer.
To synchronize files with Storegate, you use the Storeagate Sync program, which creates a “Storegate folder” in your computer’s explorer during installation. This makes it very easy to transfer and manage your files, as the folder works like any other folder on your computer. You can drag and drop, cut and paste, and all the other usual functions you are used to on your computer.
The files/folders you put in the Sync folder are both locally on your computer and uploaded to your Big Street account. The content of the “Big Street folder” is synchronized to other computers where you use Sync. Sync also allows you to share files with friends and colleagues, even if they do not have a Storegate account, by using the sharing feature. To share from Sync, right-click on a folder or file and select “Share…”. It is also possible to use Storegate Sync against a Team account with multiple users, perfect when you want to collaborate on common files within the organization. It is also possible to set permissions at different levels.
